Product Description Rome is one of Europe's most resplendent cities, so it is no wonder that Fodor's selected it to be published in full color. The Eternal City now shines with newly unleashed vitality, and here to reveal it all is Fodor's Rome 2008---packed with photos that vividly capture the whole scenic festa Italiana.
● An all-new, illustrated, "Experience Rome" chapter is loaded with valuable advice, including tips on exploring Rome like a local and getting the most for your money
● In-focus features use graphics and photos to cover Rome's top sights, including "Heaven's Above: The Sistine Ceiling" and "Campo dei Fiori: 24 Hours in the Life of a Roman Square"
● Expanded coverage of the "new Rome"---the hot locales and avant-garde sites popping up are proof that Romans are switching gears into the fast lane, along with maintaining their incredible heritage
● "Roaming Holiday" is Fodor's first step-by-step chapter, immersing the reader through three especially evocative stretches of the city
● A revamped dining chapter provides a sampling of Rome's culinary flavors through detailed portraits of the neighborhood restaurant scene

| Customer Reviews: Great guide book for a quick trip. January 7, 2009 dblduck (Philadelphia, PA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
This guidebook was extremely helpful on our recent trip. Above all, what made it so valuable was that it had detailed guides (maps, historical background, etc.) to all the major sites. We were able to walk through the Vatican museums and the Roman Forum and actually see and understand what we were looking at thanks to this book, which was SO helpful since none of the attractions in Rome seem to provide tourists with maps or guides to the ruins/museums unless you pay extra for a tourguide or audio tour. Without the Fodor's guide, we would have been pretty lost. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a detailed guide to Rome. I have only two complaints: 1. We found that the restaurant review section was surprisingly limited. For a city with such wonderful food we would have liked to have seen a greater variety of recommendations in the different neighborhoods. 2. The book only provides very limited information on day trips that are within an hour or so of Rome. We wanted to go to Pompei for a day, which we found to be totally doable, but the book had no information on how to make this trip or other connections beyond the suburbs of Rome. Thus, if you're interested in seeing a whole lot more beyond just the city or if you're taking an extended Italian vacation, I would probably advise picking up a book that covers more. For a quick trip like we made, however, the book was an extremely handy resource.

Great, with just a few exceptions... October 15, 2009 L. Kaness (Denver, CO) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As seniors on a fixed income, we would like a tad more information on cost-saving measures.
